Tonya Hawkins, Principal

It is with great TIGER PRIDE that I welcome you back to the 2021-2022 school year as your principal! I am honored to work alongside Mr. Carl Booker, Mrs. Katie Nelson and our outstanding faculty & staff to help our students grow socially and academically into healthy, productive citizens who contribute positively to our community. I am so proud of the work we do and the partnerships we share with parents, families and the Arlington Community.

Arlington is a great place to do life; as our family has called this home for over a decade. My husband and I are proud parents of two Arlington Community Schools’ graduates. We love the small-town, close-knit community and family feel of Arlington. Arlington Elementary School is a perfect example of living in community, serving others and promoting growth for students & staff.

My educational career began in 1996 at Immanuel Lutheran School, followed by Altruria Elementary in 1998 until joining Arlington Elementary in 2008. I’m thrilled to have been a part of the history of AES and humbled to contribute to the future of this amazing school.

Let’s go TIGERS!

It is an honor and privilege to be a part of Arlington Elementary School! I am so excited about working with the families of Arlington Community Schools and the outstanding faculty and staff of AES. Our mission, here at AES, is to always provide our students with a safe, nurturing learning environment and to ensure that all students are equipped with the skills essential to succeed academically and to become healthy, productive citizens in the community.

AES is a wonderful place for all students to learn and grow. My wife and I have a daughter that has spent her entire educational tenure with Arlington Community Schools.

The staff of AES is dedicated to the success of every student. The Arlington community has a rich history of academic and cultural excellence that is valued and we embrace the task of continuing to prepare our students to be productive citizens as they move to the next chapter of their educational lives.

My career in education began in 1999 at Robert E. Lee Elementary in Jackson, MS, followed by time at Southwind Elementary and Southwind High School before joining Arlington Elementary School in 2009. All of my experiences continue to inspire me to be the best that I can be for the students, staff, and families of AES.

Here at AES, we recognize the value and importance of family partnerships and together we can inspire curiosity and a love of learning in your child. My door is always open and your involvement is always welcomed and appreciated.

Go AES Tigers!!!

Katie Nelson, Assistant Principal

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I am looking forward to a wonderful year at Arlington Elementary School. A new school year is a time to reflect and count our blessings for being able to continue learning and growing together. As your assistant principal, it is my pleasure to work with our dedicated staff and the Arlington community to provide an excellent educational experience for our students. We are committed to ensuring that your children are provided with the opportunity to excel and achieve in their learning at their highest potential.

Families, teachers, support staff, community members, and administration all play a vital role in helping our students develop socially, emotionally, and academically. We are excited for the opportunity to engage with you and your child to provide a safe and productive environment that is conducive to learning and growing. Together we can make a positive difference.

Although I am new to the assistant principal role here at Arlington Elementary, Arlington is not new to me. I previously worked with Arlington Community Schools serving at Donelson Elementary School. It has been wonderful to return to a place I once called home and see many familiar faces. I love Arlington, because of the closeness among the people in the community. When I am not at work, I am often spending time with my family. My husband and I are proud parents to two children who keep us busy with school and extra-curricular activities.

My educational career began in 2005 with Shelby County Schools, followed by Arlington Community Schools in 2015, Germantown Municipal School District in 2019, until joining Arlington Elementary in the spring of 2022. I am thrilled to serve in such a wonderful school and community as one of the assistant principals. I look forward to a successful school year at Arlington Elementary. Go AES TIGERS!
