Mrs. Krista Parker

Hello, friends! My name is Krista Parker and I love taking care of the library with my favorite bulldog, Barkley. My husband, Sgt. Parker, and I have two children. Emmy is a kindergarten teacher and Garrison is a student at Western Kentucky University preparing to be an educator, as well. I received both B.S. and M.ED degrees from Union University and I completed LMIS certification through Trevecca Christian University. I have done many things in the realm of education: teacher, after school program administrator, grant writer, summer reading program director, and more; but, I have certainly returned to my first love as a librarian- READING!

Our library is at the literal heart of Donelson, and for good reason. Reading is integral to education. We have amazing teachers who are masters at teaching students to read. Loving to read, however, is so much more! It is a life-long invitation to knowledge, entertainment, and opportunity! This is my passion. Putting books into the hands of our youngest Bulldogs, introducing book series and genres, adding new high-interest print and digital reading materials, and pairing the right book with the right student at the right time are a few of my greatest pleasures. Whether I am introducing children to The Oldest Student to inspire them to never give up, using song lyrics to teach poetry, teaching them about overcoming difficulties as Louie Braille did as a teenager in Six Dots, enhancing critical thinking and citation of text evidence skills by laying out the mystery of The Wretched Stone, or just trying not to laugh to the point I cannot read the next page of The Rooster Wore Skinny Jeans, I am always striving to inspire students to pick up the next book. It could be their new favorite!
