Elementary School

Arlington Community Schools offers a comprehensive K-5 curriculum, which focuses on building a solid foundation in reading/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Our district is 1:1 with iPads in K-12 and technology is embedded in daily instruction. Each elementary school also has a STEM Lab and full time STEM teacher who provides instruction for all K-5 students. In addition to our core curriculum, students also receive weekly instruction from specialty teachers in art, music, and physical education and participate in biweekly library classes and social classes taught by our full-time guidance counselors. Both of our elementary schools have been recognized multiple years as Tennessee Reward Schools for academic achievement.

Our curriculum is based on the TN Department of Education State Academic Standards. Our locally developed ACS curriculum guides provide an outline of our curriculum and a recommended teaching order for a particular course/grade-level. Over the past two years, we have created curriculum documents for the core subjects in the Build Your Own Curriculum (BYOC) platform. These documents provide the basis for what teachers will teach and students will learn in the classrooms throughout ACS.

The district has also created a K-5 Foundational Literacy Skills Plan, which outlines our focus on improving literacy outcomes for students.
