Two-time #1 Top Workplace: ACS claims top spot for 2nd year in a row!

For the second year in a row, Arlington Community Schools has been named the #1 Top Workplace in the entire Memphis-Metro region by The Commercial Appeal Top Workplaces program! This back-to-back #1 win is an incredible achievement that showcases our commitment to creating a positive and supportive work environment for all our employees. Superintendent Jeff Mayo also won the overall Leadership Award, the only person to do so out of the 51 companies being recognized.

“We are absolutely honored to be a repeat top winner in this prestigious program, and I’m thrilled that our employees have once again shown this vote of confidence in our school district,” Mayo said. “To earn the title of #1 Top Workplace not once but twice in a row is a truly exceptional accomplishment and one that speaks volumes about our employees’ hard work, loyalty to student achievement and commitment to each other. As superintendent, it’s so important to me that we foster a positive work environment because that attitude and goodwill trickles down to the students. It keeps me committed to building upon our culture to make sure we remain a leader both in education and the business community. I’m so proud to be a part of this incredible team in Arlington.”

The list of Top Workplaces is based solely on employee feedback gathered through an anonymous survey, which more than 500 ACS employees answered earlier this year. The survey asked about the district’s culture and climate, compensation and benefits, innovation, execution, job meaningfulness, among other indicators. Those results were then compared to other organizations and businesses across the region to formulate the list of Top Workplaces.

Only 51 companies in the Memphis-Metro region made this year’s list, with ACS being the #1 Top Workplace in the Large Employer Division (350+ people) once again. Employees have pointed to ACS’s pay and compensation, which averages among the top five highest districts in Tennessee, employee recognition programs and benefits as reasons why the district is a Top Workplace.

During a ceremony Thursday night, Superintendent Mayo was presented with the overall Leadership Award, given to one leader for having the highest rated scores out of companies surveyed. "He is positive and personable to all staff," one surveyed employee said. "He doesn't treat us like he's better than us, he treats us like he values us!"

“How happy your employees are is an indictment of your leadership, whether good or bad, so to be named a best workplace last year and to even be considered another year is a grand accomplishment,” said Dr. Dale Viox, ACS Board of Education Chairman. “Being named the #1 Top Workplace is probably the biggest feather in our cap. It’s one of those unquantifiable benefits when we’re looking for the best talent. It’s been an honor to be a part of something so special since we formed in 2014 and to live in a community with such a bright, talented and dedicated school workforce. So, if you’re a hyper-talented teacher, administrator or worker, come check us out and join us. We’re going to treat you well, and we think you’ll love it here.”

ACS and the entire list of Memphis Top Workplaces will be featured in a special section of The Commercial Appeal on Sunday, December 18th.
