Which non-resident students are eligible to attend Arlington Community Schools?
Qualified students may be eligible to attend Arlington Community Schools when the student meets all of the entrance criteria and space is available at the requested school.

Is there tuition for non-resident students to attend Arlington Community Schools?
2023-2024 School Year
Approved non-resident students who reside within Shelby County limits are not required to pay tuition.
Approved non-resident students who live outside of Shelby County will be required to pay tuition. Out-of-county tuition for the 2023-2024 school year is $5,411.00 and Out-of-State tuition is $10,526.00.
NEW FOR 2024-2025
Effective with the 2024-2025 school year, accepted non-resident students residing in Shelby County and accepted out-of-county non-resident students shall not pay tuition.
Approved non-resident students who reside within the state of Tennessee are not required to pay tuition. Approved non-resident students who reside out of state will be required to pay tuition. 2024-2025 Out-of-state tuition is $6,860.00.

Where do I submit my Application for Non-Resident Admission?
The Non-Resident Application and all required documents can be submitted online (click here) beginning February 1st.

When may I apply for non-resident admission?
Applications for non-resident admission must be submitted (online application) February 1, 2024 – February 28, 2024, for priority consideration. The window may extend beyond February 28, provided that space is available. The Non-Resident application can be accessed by clicking this link.

What documents must be submitted with my student’s application?
The following documents must be submitted with each Application for Non-Resident Student admission:
- Student’s most recent report card
- Attendance Record (Year to Date | Includes: Absences, Check-ins & Check-outs)
- Discipline Record (Year to Date)
- High School Transcripts (applying 10th-12th Grades)
- A copy of the latest standardized TN/Ready / EOC scores or other nationally normed test scores (i.e. Iowa, California).
- If a student has taken the ACT or SAT, scores must be provided.
- Applicants without nationally normed test scores will be administered an ACS admittance test.

When will I find out if my child has been accepted into an Arlington Community School?
If a complete application is submitted during the priority window, parents will be informed of the status of their non-resident applications by mail prior to Arlington Community School’s Spring Registration.

Can my high school student apply for the Fine Arts Academy, the Collegiate Academy, or the Academy of Engineering and Innovation?
Yes. First, apply and be approved for non-resident admission. Once approved, you can visit the AHS webpage for details on the application process for those programs of study. The Academy of Engineering and Innovation is for incoming 9th grade students only.

If my child already attends ACS as a non-resident student, do I have to apply to attend next year?
No, currently enrolled non-residents are not required to re-apply to continue enrollment. Parents of current students will receive notification of the status of their future enrollment in the mail by mid-February.

What if I live in Arlington and I want my child to attend a different ACS school (Elementary Schools Only)?
Information about in-district transfers is available on the ACS website or you may contact the Department of Student Services for additional information.

In-District Transfer requests are applicable for elementary schools in grades 1-5 only. At this time, there are three (3) available spaces per school per grade.
