I have loved being the counselor at AES since 2014! Before AES, I interned at Tara Oaks Elementary, Houston Middle School, and Germantown High School. I also tutored at a charter elementary school in Memphis for a year and worked as a counselor at a summer camp in Massachusetts. I’m a proud Air Force kid and have lived/traveled in many interesting places (Go Air Force!). Outside of work, I love being with my family/friends, gardening/home projects, eating Mexican food, reading, and the sounds of rain/thunder/wind.

My professional background consists of over 20 years of classroom teaching at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Inspired by a school counselor who made a big difference in my life when I was young, I left the traditional classroom setting to pursue work as a school counselor. I love being around kids of ALL ages!

I am happily married to my husband Stephen, and we enjoy day outings, travel, and church involvement. My son Drew serves in the United States Marine Corps as an accomplished member of the Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST) Security Forces Regiment. My son Jack is a UT Volunteer—he’s kind of a genius, and he loves Big Orange football! Another twinkle in my eye is my granddaughter Addison, who brings us lots of laughter and joy.

My hobbies include writing, reading, scrapbooking, and spoiling my 4 cats.

Services Offered

      Individual Talks

      • These sessions are conducted around our classroom lessons schedule and your child's schedule at school; due to the size of AES, we may not get to your child immediately. If there is ever an emergency situation, these take priority for the counselors (i.e. safety issues, etc.). Administration may be utilized depending on the situation/concern. Generally, students and counselors may meet with a student 2-4 times for school-related concerns. Recommendations for individual talks come from AES staff and faculty. Please note, school counselors are licensed education-based counselors. We do not provide testing, family or marriage counseling, or long-term therapy. If a situation is not under the service umbrella of a school counselor, outside referrals via our district-wide "Support Opportunities for Students" may be given to parents/guardians.

      Classroom Lessons

      • All students at AES receive regularly scheduled guidance lessons during the LAMPS time. Lessons cover topics such as: career and college exploration, self-esteem, personal safety, conflict resolution, bullying prevention, stress/anxiety/depression reduction, friendships, middle school transition, and character education. We encourage you to talk with your student about these lessons. By discussing what they have done in guidance class, lessons will be reinforced outside the classroom.

      Small Groups

      • These are given on a need-based basis. Past groups have met for between 2-6 weeks for about 20 minutes each week on the topics of friendship, worry, grief/loss, and conflict resolution.

      Program Planning

      • The school counselors lead several programs throughout the school year. Programs each year may include: Angel Tree, Career Day, Kindness Week, Purple Up Day/Week celebrations, Family Life Curriculum Week, Golden Tickets (PBIS program), and Monthly Student of the Month recognition. Counselors also assist with spring student registration, organizing tiger time lessons, assist the PTA with Freedom Walk, work with the AES attendance team, create student behavior charts (for general education students), and participate in multiple school and district level teams and PLCs.
