Darlene Nguyen is a quintessential embodiment of the principles of the Portrait of an ACS graduate. As a student, she has been involved in many on-campus opportunities to improve both our school environment and our community at large. She has been an active member of the Student Council since her freshman year. Through this organization, she has demonstrated the ability to collaborate intentionally by working to promote school spirit through events such as homecoming week, acclimating new students to our campus through freshman orientation activities, and providing leadership training to our students as a member of the team hosting the Southern Association of Student Councils here on our campus.

Darlene has shown her ability to lead with empathy as an active member of the Environmental Club, the Young Democrats, the National Senior Beta Club, National Honor Society, Advocate for Human Rights, and Active Minds. Through all of these organizations, she has completed numerous community service hours. Her weekly community service takes many forms including: volunteering at Memphis Botanical Gardens, serving as an ACT Tutor for Reading/English, volunteering as a translator at Memphis Buddhist Temple, teaching piano and violin, crocheting baby hats for winter, and teaching Vietnamese immigrant children to read English. Darlene has also represented our school competitively as a member of the Bowling Team and the Model UN team.

She has shown her ability to be resilient by maintaining a 4.75 GPA while completing all of the aforementioned community service work. Her dedication to academic excellence has earned her the status of being an AP Scholar with Distinction distinction, meaning she has already attained credit on 5 Advanced Placement exams. Furthermore, she is currently taking 7 Advanced Placement courses. She is a gifted writer who plans to pursue a degree in a Humanities-related field. Ultimately, she intends to become a lawyer, possibly with a focus on environmental law.

The Patriot Bank Student of the Month program recognizes one student in the months of September - April. One of those eight students will then be selected for a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by Patriot Bank.
